This job description is for a CW to support development efforts regarding the project OZ and thermal platform within the material and devices team. This person will support scientists and engineers to run experiments, make measurements, and process materials / samples. This person will be required to be on-site 100% of the time, as it is a fully hands-on role.

OVERVIEW & CONTEXT
This person will support hands-on efforts in the lab which are time consuming and repetitive. This will allow scientists & engineers to multitask more effectively. Primarily, this person will support the film development efforts ( PE) on the Materials and Devices team. Initial duties will include: Sample preparation using various methods including but not limited to: 1) Gel/solvent casting, 2) hot press compaction and calendaring, 3) stretching, 4) preparing thermal setup to measure the thermal conductivity of the samples, 5) fabrication and testing of next generation vapor chambers. The characterization methods that will be used includes differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis, rheology.

TARGETED BACKGROUND [Internal]
Material Sciencentis, thermal engineer with background in material development, Chemical Engineer with a background in polymer characterization (desirable).

JOB DESCRIPTION
The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working in a polymer lab and will be familiar with the typical tools, instruments, and safety procedures used in such an environment. You will be responsible for collecting data, documenting your findings, and presenting results to a collaborative team of scientists and engineers. Our team is highly cross-functional, and is looking for a motivated self-starter who can be hands-on in our laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Run experiments based on a defined SOP
Process polymer material samples using solvent casting, melt extrusion, and calendaring.
Characterize polymers including dielectric measurements, mechanical testing including Instron, 3-point bending, adhesive testing, surface energy measurements, DMA, DSC, rheology, SEM, optical microscopy.
Familiarity with available methods to measure thermal conductivity of samples.
Experience in designing thermal setup related to measuring convective, radiative heat transport.
Familiarity with heat pipes and vapor chamber. Experience with fabrication of VC is highly desirable.
Collaborate with scientists and engineers to present findings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BS/MS in Chemical/Materials Engineering or similar
2+ years of experience with polymer characterization
Able to follow complicated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Clear and effective communication, as well as documentation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in materials science/polymer engineering with emphasis on thermal performance of materials.
Experience with LFA is highly desirable.
